Dogs Like Vacation Too

This one is for the dog lovers out there. The following 2 links are of our dog jumping off a dock on Torch Lake, Michigan. They’re both very short, but they do include sound, so mute your speakers if you’re in an office.

Tyler,
Great picture, what camera did you use if you don’t mind me asking?
John.

Great fun! Of course, our cat would NEVER do this. He has a pretty different idea of “fun” I guess – and it won’t include water, I’m sure of that.

John,
Thanks! The camera is just a Canon Rebel XT, but it really isn’t the important part of the equation. The lens is a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L. I was working for Mike Hichwa (and in the same office) when I got into photography, and he taught me early on that it’s all in the glass. I’ve gone through a number of cheap lenses, but eBayed them all in the last to years for the 24-70 and my personal favorite, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. Actually, the 70-200 also cost me a kidney and my first-born, but it’s worth every penny. Here are a few shots from the 70-200:
Chipmunk, Counting Crows 1, Counting Crows 2, Ainsley.

Robert,
Our cats aren’t big fans of water either, but they do get along well with the dog: Pic 1, Pic 2. Actually, our Orange Tabby established who was boss the day the dog moved in: Cat owns Dog Pic

Great stills and videos. Even though I’m at work, I turned the sound back on (softly) and it was worth it. I’d say your dock needs more texture be lower to the waster so your beautiful old golden doesn’t slip so much when he jumps off.
Here’s a shot of our golden taking a flying leap:

Also, you’re totally right about the glass in the lens making all the difference in the world. When I upgraded to a DSLR, I spent more on the Canon 17-40mm L lens than I did the Xti body and it’s definitely worth it. The 70-300mm is pretty good too, though not as sharp as your 70-200 L. You have some great shots of your daughter, thanks for sharing.

Talk about costing a kidney for some photo equipment…

So cute! So tell me, do you ever “air” travel your pets to vacation destinations? I have to take a trip soon and I’m trying to find safe air travel for my dog to come with me.

Oh so true! My Boston Terrier would always love to have a walk in the park. They just love to play.
